Story Behind the Image:

For as long as stories have been told, the magic nature of forests has often been the backdrop for fables, myths, metaphors, and legends.  What is it about trees that evokes our imagination? Could it be their unique relationship with one another, or the way they hold the memories of years (and sometimes centuries) in their growth rings? When I walk through the forest, I see the secret places that horses and other wildlife inhabit. Their trails meander between the trees without pause or reason. They gather beneath the heavy branches of the spruce and pine, and graze in the open poplar groves. Keisha stands now in her Sacred Forest. At the age of 16 she is young by tree years but elderly by equine measures. She has produced many offspring, also bearing her unique pinto colouring, that have gone on to produce families of their own. Though they may wander far away, she always remains close by, in her Sacred Forest
