Equine Photography Session

Each image from your photoshoot is carefully selected by Debra for its composition, tones, and detail. Debra’s extensive background as a professional horsewoman gives her the advantage of an eye trained to notice subtle nuances of a horse’s expression and physique, with the intention to create artistic and flattering images of your horse.

Every selected print is processed and edited using fine art standards and crafted to reach the level that Debra’s internationally awarded photographs are known for.

Printing is done in-house on 44-inch and 60-inch Epson Sure-Colour P Series printers. These are state-of-the-art commercial photo printers incorporating the latest in imaging technologies to insure fidelity of colour and detail.

Only the highest quality archival inks and print medium are used. Hahnemuhle Museum Etching Paper and Epson Exhibition Satin Canvas are our preferred high-performance products, but we have other options available upon request. Every print is personally handled, inspected, and signed by Debra to assure each one meets her quality standards.

WHAT YOUR EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION INCLUDES:

Your standard package fee includes a one-hour private photography session with Debra Garside. Prints are ordered a la carte. Debra will be shooting with the Nikon flagship camera, the mirrorless Z9 edition. Debra will be using LED lights with soft-box covers and no flashes. There are three backdrop colours available (white, grey and black). Session fee is non-refundable.

Print can be purchased à la carte.

THE SHOOT:

Your horse will be photographed with whatever tack (halter or bridle and/or saddle) you choose, as well as with a minimal rope halter that will be edited out of the photo in post-process for a completely tack-free appearance. Typically, Debra will capture 300-400 images during the one-hour session.

Part of the success of the shoot depends on how the horse accepts the studio environment and to what degree the handler can pose the horse. Some owners find bringing a second horse along for company is helpful, and a few treats. It is essential that your horse is clean and if braided, that braids are straight and tidy.

THE SELECTION & EDITING PROCESS:

Once the photo session is complete, Debra will download and duplicate all digital images to an external hard drive. She will then cull the images down to a selection of 20-30 images that are worthy of further editing. These images will be inspected on a large editing monitor for quality and then the final cut of 6-12 images will be put through the fine art editing process. This process can take 6 to 10 hours. Debra makes every effort to have proofs for you within 2-3 weeks of shooting day.

Prints starting at $300. For 2023 PRINTING PRICES please email direct.

Free Custom Mock-ups and Purchase Advice

Every home, space, décor, and lighting present special opportunities for choosing art. Sometimes it is difficult to choose the right print to enhance the mood or statement you wish to create. With this in mind, we offer custom mock-ups at no charge. All that is needed is for you to email us a photograph of your wall (taken from a perpendicular angle) showing the context of the room and where the image will be featured. We will then photoshop your favorite image choices (and maybe one or two that we recommend) onto your wall so that you can see exactly what the tone and feel of the image will be. This will give you added confidence in your choice of purchase.
