WILD HORSES: a living heritage of Alberta

by Debra Garside, Foreword by Amber Marshall

“It has been said that to create a great photograph, the photographer must love their subject, and that is more than evident in Debra’s book Wild Horses. Well researched, beautifully photographed and elegantly printed, her book is a tribute to Alberta’s living legends. It is a stunning visual journey of some of the world’s most beautiful creatures, set against the stunning beauty of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. Bravo!” – Tony Stromberg

In Celebration of Thunderbird Show Park’s 50 year anniversary, we are proud to present a special edition of  Debra’s award winning book “Alberta’s Wild Horses, a Living Heritage of Alberta”,. This special edition of only 50 copies signed and numbered by the author, will include a donation $20 towards wild horse conservation as well as a unique Tbird silk ribbon bookmark. Books can also be purchased at the Garside Gallery on vendor’s row at Thunderbird Show Park.

“I have been exhibiting at Thunderbird in Langley since I was a junior rider in the 1970’s. Thunderbird’s history and contribution to the horse industry is unmatched, and I could not be more proud to continue to be a part of its ongoing legacy.” Debra Garside

Description

This exciting new project is a collection of photographs and field notes that began to take shape 11 years ago when Debra began photographing and observing our Alberta Wildies. This book brings together all of those memories and experiences including unprecedented documentation of two foal births – images never before seen. The foreword is written by Canadian actress Amber Marshall of ‘Heartland’.

WILD HORSES 228 pages contain over 220 fine art photographs and 15,000 words of text that brings you into the world of ‘wildies’. You will learn how these horses live through the seasons, what their attributes and behaviours are and be introduced to certain individuals that hold a special place in Debra’s heart. It explains about their history, colour variations and how they fit into the ecology of Alberta’s Eastern Slopes.

BOOK SPECIFICATIONS: 12.25 x 9.5 x 1 inches, Hard Cover with Dust Jacket, 228 pages with over 220 full colour images printed by Friesens Press.
