For as long as I can remember, animals have held a special fascination for me. Some of My earliest memories are of seeing a bear and a whale and being filled with joy. Decades later I’m still following wild horses, still trying to understand them. I observe with respect, awe, and wonder, and I learn from them every time. This collection gathers the images that stopped me — the moments when an animal paused and seemed to be offering something rather than simply being seen. Most are portraits in the truest sense: the subject at rest, unhurried, aware of me (delete this line). I can’t explain why certain frames carry that weight and others don’t, only that I know it when it happens. Pause with one.
