Story Behind the Image:
A horse that is born on Sable Island is the offspring of generations of truly free horses. For hundreds of years, they have walked this island and not felt the hand of man. But there is something more than the sum of their untouched genetics that creates a sense of mystery around them. For centuries they have born witness to man’s failed attempts to settle here, to build shelter here and to those that have dared to sail too close. Miraculously the horses have survived these elemental challenges and will remain resilient when all signs of man have disappeared into the sands of time.
Born of Sable Island was conceived and sculpted in 2015 on Sable Island by Debra Garside during her 6-day summer expedition. The base was part of an 18th century shipwreck, which was loaned to her for the purpose of casting by Parks Canada.

Description
Born of Sable Island can be used as decorative or functional art. It may sit as a business card holder or be hung on the wall to hang a horse bridle or halter. Or it may be enjoyed purely as the beautiful rendition of a Sable stallion emerging from its historic origins.
