Join me for the cultural and photographic adventure of a lifetime. See optional trip add-on Sept 6-14, 2023 below.
Mongolia is a land of vast open spaces and ancient cultures and traditions. This landscape is without fences and few marked roads. While travel at times is a little rustic, the rewards are spectacular. Debra Garside and her experienced team of guides, drivers and cooks, will give you a memorable experience and bring your photography to the next level. This itinerary has been developed with years of experience travelling in Mongolia and is designed to give you the best photographic opportunities possible.
This 2023 trip includes: a 3 hour domestic flight to spend 3 days/nights in western Mongolia staying with a Nomadic Eagle Hunting family. We photograph them in a variety of settings, training their eagles and horses, during their daily life such as milking mares and yaks, as well as traditional games on horseback. We will have a special private opportunity to photograph Buddhist monks during their morning chants at the monastery, spend time with the head biologist in charge of the Prezewalski (Takhi) horses while we photograph them at their water hole at sunrise. Chance of seeing wolves and elk. We will travel to the sand dunes and photograph horse herders at the nearby lake, Bactrian camels in the sand dunes and have an opportunity to ride camels and horses ourselves.
Other activities include cultural demonstrations, a visit to the main square and statues of Genghis Khan, shopping at the Black Market, Kashmir and antique shopping as well as optional museum, art gallery and folklore music/dance concert opportunities. Some of the most unique experiences are the ones we don’t plan, as we keep a flexible schedule to allow for those to unfold!
This year will be the first year offering this special excursion for those with horse riding experience. This rapidly declining culture of reindeer herders can only be seen in their natural setting by an intensive 7-8 day journey that includes a domestic flight, 4X4 travel, horse-back riding and camping in traditional tepees. Our guide, interpreter and cook travel with us to ensure your safety and comfort.
