Workshops will be held in the foothills and mountains west of Sundre and in the South James, Ghost and Red Deer River regions.
June 10-11-12 (3 nights)
October 7-8-9 (3 nights)
Guests can book a private tour for 1-4 people.
Choose your dates from 2-4 days.
February and March workshops will have alternate dates in case travel is restricted by weather conditions. Workshops will be postponed to the alternate date if temperatures are below -20C or if heavy snow prevents safe travel. Winter workshops will focus on photographing horses in snow, so participants are expected to embrace these conditions! Winter workshops will be based in Sundre, all others from Sunset Guiding on Panther Road.
We meet at 3 pm, go over camera settings, discuss composition and what to look for in a great horse shot. We will spend the rest of the day in the field finding wild horses.
Depending on the weather and light we do a 3-hour morning shoot, and a 3 hour afternoon/evening shoot. We generally see between 50 and 100 horses per day, but the emphasis is on getting quality shots with nice backgrounds. Each participant will be given 45 minutes of one-to-one consultation with Debra. You can choose your topic – anything from a portfolio review to editing lessons in PS or LR to review of the days’ images – it’s up to you!
Includes a morning shoot, wrapping up 1 pm.

THE COST OF THE WORKSHOP IS PAYABLE IN ADVANCE TO SECURE YOUR PLACE AS A PARTICIPANT.
I prefer payment by eTransfers to debrgarsidephotography@gmail.com, (no password required) but will also accept check or payment by credit card (either through Paypal or by phone). Cash or debit can be paid at the Garside Gallery.
I understand that attending my workshops requires advance commitment, and also that things can happen in life that may require you to cancel from a workshop. Based on cancellation date, the following apply:
Because it is such a small group, if one person cancels it makes a substantial difference to the entire trip which is why this refund policy is adhered to. No matter when you cancel, if I am able to fill your space in the workshop, I will provide a 100% refund (less $50 admin fee) of any payments made or a credit towards future workshops.
Wild Horse Photography Workshops are limited to 4 people so as to minimize our impact on the horses and to keep the group to one vehicle. The cost of the workshop includes transportation in my vehicle and includes fuel from the Sundre area to wherever the horses take us. If we do a trip to the Wild Horses of Alberta Society rescue facility to photograph their resident herd I would appreciate if each participant donates $25 to the Society which I will match. This is not mandatory.
Anyone who has been exposed to Covid-19 and/or has exhibited flu symptoms within the 10 days prior to the workshop will not be permitted to attend and will receive a full credit towards a future workshop. Waivers will be sent and must be signed 10 days before the event and returned by text or email.
